Fred Fielder MBE. His birthday celebration at the Willows Theatre club.
Hi everybody, on Sunday 1st of February I had the pleasure of performing at the Willows for one of my good friends birthday, Fred Fielder. Fred is somewhat of a legend in the north west having been a very popular and well loved DJ on Manchester’s BBC GMR Radio for many years.
Around two years ago I received a phone call from Fred asking if I would join him on his Sunday morning show for a chat about my career as a singer and performer. Of course I jumped at the chance to meet Fred as I had heard many great things about him and his love for music. I turned up at the station in Manchester feeling a little nervous as it was my first interview on live radio, but as soon as I was introduced to Fred he made me feel very comfortable and relaxed. Anybody who has met Fred will tell you what a special character he is, and also a very funny one. To say that I enjoyed the day is an understatement, He played several of my songs and we had a really good chat about where my singing had taken me and what I was hoping to achieve in the future, it was a great day.
Since the interview we have become very good friends, we have performed together at several corporate events, me obviously singing and Fred comparing, it’s always a lot of fun. We also have several friends in common so we regularly bump into each other at birthday parties and other things like that. It was a few months ago that Fred rang and invited me and my family to his 60th birthday bash at the famous ‘Willows’ in Salford. The added bonus for me was that he asked me to perform on the evening, of course I said yes. The Willows is a great venue and has had stars like Joe Longthore and the Drifter’s gracing the stage, I also have performed at the Willows several times before and it’s always a pleasure to go back.
I will be posting footage of my performance at the party in my video section in the next week so keep an eye out as it was a really great night. I will also take the opportunity to wish Fred a late happy birthday and I look forward to performing at his 70th, All the best mate.
